Project Masam has cleared a total of 8,447 explosive items during February 2026, as part of its ongoing humanitarian mine action efforts to reduce explosive threats and protect civilians across Yemen’s liberated areas.

The monthly total includes 51 anti-personnel mines, 1,330 anti-tank mines, 7,023 items of unexploded ordnance, and 43 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In a statement issued by the project’s Media Office, Project Masam noted that the high number of unexploded ordnance and anti-tank mines cleared during the month underscores the scale and complexity of contamination faced by engineering teams during clearance operations.

The operations room reported that on-duty teams and special task teams removed 1,765 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and IEDs during the most recent reporting week, including 1,745 items of unexploded ordnance cleared during the final week of February alone.

Over the same period, Project Masam demining teams secured 739,023 square metres of land, making it safe for civilian use. The areas released during February include villages, farmland, access routes, and areas surrounding key infrastructure, reducing immediate risks for families living and working in contaminated environments.

Alongside the life-saving impact of clearance, Project Masam’s operations continue to systematically document the location, type, and condition of explosive devices found in civilian areas. This field-based documentation supports a clearer understanding of contamination patterns and the ongoing humanitarian impact of landmines and explosive remnants of war.

Clearance activities during February continued despite difficult terrain, security constraints, and high levels of metal contamination in some locations. Teams apply methodical procedures in line with international standards to ensure all areas are fully verified before being released for civilian use.
