Project Masam clears 4,900 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices

Project Masam has announced that its demining teams have removed 4,900 landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in July 2024.

Project Masam’s Operations Room said in a statement that the teams removed 670 landmines and UXO last week, including five anti-personnel landmines, 47 anti-tank mines, 570 UXO and 21 IEDs, bringing the total number of explosive items removed in July to 4,900. For July, the total removals included 4,603 UXO and 216 anti-tank mines.

The project’s demining teams cleared 179,498 square metres of Yemeni land last week, according to the statement.

Since the start of the project at the end of June 2018, Project Masam teams have cleared 58,454,760 square metres of Yemeni land.
