The Deputy Director of the Education Office in Jabal Habshi Directorate in Yemen’s Taiz Governorate said that Project Masam brought life back to a local school after it successfully cleared landmines and explosive devices from its premises.

Yassin Al-Barkani explained that the Al Shaab School in the Akkad village was used by Houthi militias during the war to store landmines and other explosive items.

Explosives detonated, resulting in the destruction of six of the school’s classrooms.

The school taught students up to the ninth grade.

While classrooms serving pupils up to seventh grade were still standing and deemed safe, older students were forced to leave school, or join other local schools, after the site became dangerous, given the presence of landmines.

The Deputy Director explained how Project Masam’s landmine clearance operation in the school was instrumental in protecting students and educational staff.
