The story of mines is not recent, as it did not start with the militias, but it escalated with them. Its history goes back to the 1970s, after the country entered a regional civil war between north and south.
The story of tragic mines chapters in Yemen returned cruelly with the beginning of the Houthi militia coup, which not only sought to bulldoz the political, religious and cultural situation, but also contributed to leveling and mining fertile Yemeni lands with hatred.
The militias, since they declared their war on Yemen, have managed to control military and security institutions in most areas, including the western coast extending from Hodaydah Governorate to Bab Al-Mandab. It resorted to emptying military arsenals of various types and transferring some to their own camps and others stored in mountain caves.
Mines and explosive devices of various sizes, shapes and types were one of the most dangerous weapons that the militias put their hands on, in addition to the support they were receiving from Iran before the liberation of large western coast areas through Al-Hodaydah port, which is one of the most important ports in Yemen. This made the militias’ appetite more and more voracious, and they continued to plant more death and destruction weapons in the region.
Day after day, the militias prove their malicious intentions and work to prolong their coup through a long series of escalation and armed movements, especially through their treacherous weapon, named mines, the dagger they inserted in the Yemeni body.
These putschists seek from this cunning criminal act, to throw terror into the population’s hearts, to subject them to their control and tighten their grip on their necks, thus ensuring that they do not rise up against this terrorist faction that has placed many burdens on the Yemenis. Perhaps the most terrible thing the Yemenis have endured as a result of this frenzied terrorism is the robbery of their lives, which is stolen daily before their eyes. As for the survivors, they were forced to flee to live the life of the displaced which is full of unbearable suffering and crises.
Masks completely fall, and it became clear that there was a targeting of the region’s security and confirms the presence of an agenda behind this coup and its sedition act. Therefore, there is no reason to dialogue with them and call them to stop their violations and crimes against the Yemeni people, because they never respected an agreement, but rather deliberately violated all of them.
This is in addition to the destructive ideas imbued with their minds and the realities of treason and dependency that dominate their actions and direct their positions.
While this group seeks to destroy Yemen, Project Masam teams are waging a fierce war of another kind, in which they were opposed by mines that tampered with the lives and bodies of innocent people. Good deeds has opened the way for families to return to their homes, in addition to lifting the siege on many affected areas.
Throughout the past period, Masam teams have scrambled to save citizens’ lives and drive away death from their path, depending on the experiences that this project abounds. Also, those in charge of it sought to provide modern capabilities and equipment, which made work more accurate, effective and efficient. Therefore, from end of June 2018 to January 1st, the teams were able to clear 208,505 mines, unexploded ammunition and explosive devices, including 7120 during last December, in addition to clearing 18,117,920 square meters of Yemeni lands.
Project Masam provided an honorable model in the field of humanitarian work, as its workers chose to save Yemenis over their lives, and became the shield that protected them from mines evils and saved them from this disaster.
