Leader of Masam’s Team 15, Engineer Sultan Al-Qubei has confirmed the successful completion of surveying and clearing of landmines in the Shaqt Al-Alqa desert area in Yemen’s Shabwah governorate.
The demining team has been operating for two months in this vital area which links the Hareb, Beihan and Usaylan districts.
Al-Qubei pointed out that most landmines, removed by the team in Al-Alqa desert, were anti-tank mines of regular and irregular shapes indiscriminately planted by the Houthi militias.
The landmine contamination of the Al-Alqa desert area road linking these provinces prevented civilians, nomads and visitors from traveling for over a year.
As Masam’s engineering teams began their landmines removal and clearance operation, the area was secured before the movement of civilians, herders and vehicles was possible again.
Al-Qubei confirmed that Team 15 successfully removed 200 anti-tank mines from the Shaqt Al-Alqa desert area and secured the area frequented by nomads, who are now able to graze their livestock and move from area to area.
