Masam project’s teams of experts made an inspection and supervisory visit to the engineering teams in the directorate of Bab Al Mandab on the western coast.
During the visit, the team of experts saw the progress achieved by Masam teams that work in Bab Al Mandab and the extent of their adherence to the international standards in the de-mining process.
In an exclusive statement made to Masam’s media office, the international expert in mines Dr Zawba’ Al Rawi confirmed that the visit of the Masam’s team of experts is supervisory, in order to check the work progress made by the engineering teams, and the extent of what they achieved to reach the noble goal that Masam project aims to achieve and which is a Yemen free of mines.
Dr Zawba’ added: “we are today in Shoab Al Maa region, it is a coastal area which was infested in the past with mines of all kinds. And thanks to Masam’s employees who are working here, we were able to secure the region and its coasts almost completely. They are still working to finish this task, so they can be transferred later on to new regions after declaring Bab Al Mandab directorate safe from mines”. He noted that the achievement made by Masam’s teams in this region was that they removed more than 800 anti-tank mines and more than 200 anti-personnel mines.
Dr Zawba’ reiterated that the most important thing in the work of Masam’s teams is not the quantity of extracted mines but the size of areas purified of mines, and that is what is always reiterated.
in his turn, the supervisor of Masam’s engineering teams in Bab Al Mandab directorate, engineer Khalid Al Amoudi confirmed that Masam’s teams working in Bab Al Mandab directorate started their work in August 2018, and were able to secure many coastal, agricultural and residential areas.
Engineer Al Amoudi noted that the quantity of mines removed by Masam’s team in Shoab Al Maa region, which is a coastal area, and Al Hariqiya, which is an agricultural and residential area, and also the region of Kahboub are estimated at more than 800 mines, explosive devices and unexploded ordnance.
The supervisor of Masam’s engineering teams in Bab Al Mandab added that the number of fields that have been secured in the coastal region of Shoab Al Maa and the region of Al Hariqiya are up to now 21 fields.
Al Amoudi confirmed that Masam’s teams enabled the fishermen in Bab Al Mandab to go back to their work in a safe way, after fully securing the coastal line that extends from Al Ardhi region to Bab Al Mandab, noting that the coastal region was a no-go area that nobody could enter due to the mines which were planted by the Houthi militias randomly and massively along the coastal line.
And about the importance of the team of experts’ visit to Bab Al Mandab, engineer Khalid Al Amoudi confirmed that the visit lifts the spirits of the engineering teams, and provides them with more expertise in dealing with the mines in a right and secure way.
