Before the ink dried on any deal, the Houthi coup militias violated it with smugness and arrogance. This group deceived the international community, and whenever it was given the opportunity to sit at the negotiating table or to reach a political solution to bridge the gap and push the specter of war away from Yemen, it violated the terms to show clearly that these militias are merely a gang that believes only in violence, sabotage and killing.
This terrorist Houthi’s tactic posed a threat to all peace accords and political negotiations about Yemen, the Houthi coup militias unveiled their true face which showed that they don’t want peace or stability in Yemen, and the attacks and deals’ violations are just a contempt of political efforts.
The mines are one of the bloodiest cases of aggression against civilians in modern history, which led to the loss of thousands of innocent civilian lives.
And as Yemen was hoping to heal from the mines dating from the last half of the past century’s conflicts, the Yemenis found themselves back, paying the mines’ huge price but in a more severe way, as the Houthis put hundreds of thousands of anti-machinery and anti-personnel mines with different proportions in all the regions that witnessed direct confrontations, starting from Aden and its southern surroundings to Sa’dah and the borders with Saudi Arabia in the far north, passing by the governorates of Lahij, Taiz, Al Hudaydah, Ma’rib, Al Baidha, Dhale, Abyan, Al Jawf, Hajjah and other damaged governorates.
Many regions are shedding tears because of these fatal devices, for every city or village that the militias passed through felt a severe pain from them.
These militias signed the death certificates of civilians since they started to plant the seed of their grudge in homes, roads, public places and farms, which led to the displacement of its inhabitants who rushed to go back to their lands as soon as these militias withdrew from their lands, but an unpleasant surprise was waiting for them to celebrate their return, as may mines exploded to kill innocent lives whose only guilt was that they were dreaming of going back to their homes and farms.
That is exactly what happened to Khaled Naji Said, who was forcibly displaced after his wife fell victim to the Houthis’ bullets. But the hope of return to his farm never left him, and with the first opportunity, he hurried to go back to his farm, but the murderous enemy grimed his teeth at the face of his son and handicapped him despite his father’s efforts to save him, as he took him to Aden in order to receive treatment for 3 months, but to no avail; the shrapnel damaged his legs and cut a finger in his right hand.
And according to Kahled, another mine at the same farm took the life of his nephew, two nieces and cousin, as his family lost 4 of its members at once. But with the arrival of Masam’s engineering teams which were able to secure the region, the people were allowed to return to their normal lives and do their agricultural work.
Despite this terrorist group’s aggressive policy, Masam project is still carving in the rock to save lives that are threatened by a wrong step or a misfortune. “These efforts will not stop until the removal of the last mine from all Yemeni governorates” as the Managing Director of Masam Project Mr Ousama Algosaibi said.
The Masam project proved during the past months its resoluteness to overcome all the challenges to clear Yemeni lands from the Houthis’ filth, and despite losing 20 of his personnel, it became more attached to its goal, and is working at a higher pace to keep the specter of death away from the Yemenis whom the mines tormented, and to help them overcome the humanitarian tragedies that resulted from this scourge.
