At a time when Corona virus is getting all the attention of the world, blocking the wheel of life from turning around, Masam project doesn’t rest, as it works around the clock to accomplish its mission in Yemen with devotion and in a record time; Masam doesn’t ignore this novel virus which mixed the world’s cards and changed its priorities.
For all these reasons, Masam is eager to deal with this virus which is described as “the enemy of mankind”, by taking all the necessary precautions from it, and with a determination to give, whatever the costs and challenges.
In this context, Dr Julian Spines, the member in Masam’s medical team said: “In addition to the usual medical support we provide for our teams, it is clear the Covid 19 pandemic made things more complicated.. Of course, we have to ensure that our staff are protected from this virus.. And we implemented a readiness and response emergency plan in Aden and also in Marib.. And in that plan, we put all the precautionary measures for the prevention from the outbreak; the measures which will be followed by all our staff in Masam project”.
Dr Julian Spines went on to explain more about the work of his medical team by saying: “Some of the measures that we implemented are the visual screening of the employees who visit our facilities, and also cleaning the hands, putting the masks, and of course we put a lot of sanitizers to ensure that everybody’s hands are always sanitized. We also focus on social distancing, and that is why we try to keep our staff away from each other by 2 meters, in order to prevent the spreading of the virus, if there are any infected”.
The role of Masam didn’t stop just at this level, as Dr Julian added: “We focused on the training courses that Masam’s employees attend. And in these courses, we teach them the facts about the virus, as there are many fake news which are spreading, and because of that it is very important for our staff to understand the effect of the virus and how to protect themselves from it. All our teams are attending the same awareness sessions, and also our medical teams, as we want to ensure that they get the best materials to protect themselves and their teams”.
And here, Dr Julian finished by saying: “We always work to ensure that our staff have hand sanitizers, gloves, masks and of course a part of the testing is made through checking the temperature to be sure that they don’t have fever. Of course, one of the problems related to this virus is that the infected may not show the symptoms, but he can infect the others, so that is why it is important that we make the visual screening on all our staff. I think that we are well prepared to deal with the situation, if we reach the phase when the virus enters Yemen”.
On the other hand, Masam’s teams continue their field work perfectly, as the Managing Director of Masam project Mr Ousama Algosaibi announced that the total of what was cleared since the launch of the project to the 9th of April reached 159805 mines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices.
