The director of the National Mine Action Program in Aden has commended Project Masam for its success in its humanitarian mine action fieldwork, highlighting Masam’s demining teams’ continuous training and qualifications periodically undertaken under Masam’s experts.
Launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in June 2018, Project Masam works in coordination and partnership with Yemen Executive Mine Action Center (YEMAC) to clear Yemeni territory of indiscriminately planted anti-tank landmines (also known as anti-vehicle landmines), anti-personnel mines and improvised explosive devices (IED) as well as unexploded ordnance (UXO) with the aim of controlling the humanitarian catastrophe caused by mines in Yemen.
The head of YEMAC’s Aden’s branch, Brigadier General Qa’ed Haitham, pointed out that the skills and experience, which Masam teams have gained over the past years, enabled them to achieve this success and keep up to date with the Houthi militias’ manufacturing and camouflaging of landmines and IEDs.
Haitham highlighted the strong coordination between Project Masam and YEMAC in Yemen, which he said played a vital role in ensuring Yemeni deminers are able to overcome any difficulties in the field.
Haitham held a luncheon in honour of Project Masam’s Managing Director Ousama Algosaibi, the director of YEMAC Brigadier General Amin Al-Aqili, and Project Masam’s foreign and Saudi staff.
