Project Masam for clearing Yemeni lands of mines carried out two operations of destruction and detonation of aerial bombs in Shabwa governorate dating back to before the revolution of October 14, 1963.
The Director of National Mine Action Program, Brigadier General Amin Al-Aqili, said, “Teams 10 and 12 of Masam carried out two operations to destroy some of the aviation bombs located in the Shuqair area of the Ain directorate, west of Shabwa governorate, which represent a great danger to residents lives for decades, because they did not explode after being thrown by the British air force. Brigadier General Al-Aqili added that what was destroyed today is considered a first stage, and the rest of the bombs will be destroyed as soon as security conditions permit, stressing that there are many remnants of war that need to be destroyed.
Al-Aqili explained that the local authorities in Ain Directorate informed Project Masam and the National Program of the presence of aerial bombs in separate areas of the Shuqair Mountain chain, which pose a great threat to local residents lives and are difficult to dispose due to their large size, ranging from 350 to 500 pounds.
Al-Aqili pointed out that the existence of these bombs represented a great danger to citizens, as they were liable to explode in the event of tampering with them or colliding with any object, calling on residents to stay away from war remnants and foreign objects and not to tamper with them and inform the concerned authorities to deal with them.
