Masam Demining Project in Yemen carried out an operation to destroy and detonate 865 mines, explosive device, and unexploded shell, in Bab Al-Mandab directorate of the West Coast.
The destruction operation carried out by the missile collection team, under the supervision of Masam experts in the Aden and the West Coast, and in the presence of the Director of the Executive Center for Mine Action in Aden, Brigadier General Qaed Haitham, included 131 anti-tank mines, 4 anti-personnel mines, 91 miscellaneous shells, and 5 explosive devices, in addition to 481 fuses, aviation missiles, Katyusha and 150 miscellaneous ammunition.
Engineer Yahya Atef Saeed, Acting Commander of the Missile Collection Team in Bab Al-Mandab said that the amount of mines and shells destroyed today is the result of what has been cleared by Masam engineering teams from several regions and districts, most notably Al-Mokha directorate, Mawza’a, as well as Kahnub area, Al-Haneesha, Azzan and Al-Omari, and other areas where the Masam teams are deployed along the western coast.
From his side, Masam international expert, Dr. Zawbaa Al-Rawi confirmed that, Project Masam and its teams working in Aden and the West Coast are making great efforts in order to drive away civilians from mines danger, secure their lives, enable them to return to their areas, and carry out their work safely.
Al-Rawi pointed out that Masam engineering teams deployed in all Yemeni governorates are distinguished by good skills and experience and work accurately and objectively while adhering to international safety standards.
Al-Rawi noted that Project Masam works diligently and continuously to develop the engineering teams skills, raise their competencies, and overcome all the obstacles they face in order to achieve greater results in the field to reach Masam goal which is Yemen free of mines.
