At a time when the Houthis’ landmines gathered to conspire against civilian Yemenis who found themselves trapped between the deadly Houthi jaws that played freely in Yemen and scattered its valleys, mountains, deserts and even the seas, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hurried to relief and aid its brotherly neighbour afflicted in its security and safety by the terror buried underground.
The swift Saudi relief and aid to the Yemeni neighbor in the face of the landmines epidemic came through the creation of project Masam for Mine Clearance, which since it set its feet in Yemen up to today, and after more than two years of its launch, became an example of generosity and a good omen for Yemenis who found in Masam the best aid in their dealings with the landmines.
The Kingdom of good never stopped from helping Yemenis, raising optimism for these people whom the landmines took secure life away from them, dispersed them, tore their bodies apart, separated the lands from their farmers, kids from their schools, fishermen from their boats and even the children from their toys. The landmines turned the lives of Yemenis upside down, until Masam came and propagated hope and optimism in Yemen.
With every cleared landmine, every secured area, and after each operation to destroy and demolish landmines, each response to civilians’ calls about the presence of landmines or rain torrents that uncover landmines around civilians in various areas of Yemen, hope finds a way again to the hearts of Yemenis who breathe a fresh air, and optimism returns to the spirits of Yemenis as they see with their own eyes the family of Masam working hard and paying a high price to protect their lives from the danger of landmines.
The number of cleared and demolished landmines, the size of lands cleared from the deadly traps, the martyrs of Masam who sacrificed their lives and its teams who work on the ground continuously and tirelessly to defeat the landmines despite the pandemic of Covid-19, all of these are a clear evidence that Masam is the source of hope and optimism for the Yemeni people.
