The Houthis group broke all records in the war of landmines and explosive devices. It left no place in Yemen without having distibuted its satanic seeds unconcerned with the fate of thousands of civilians who have been suffocated with landmines, which made their lives a constant nightmare. Every Yemeni is afraid that he will be betrayed by luck one day to find himself fell prey to that underground killer.
The Houthi madness of planting landmines has made Yemen the most widespread country for landmines. Yemen has topped the list of the countries with the most landmine incidents in the world for the year 2018 alone, according to the report issued by the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining. And this is what poses a permanent threat to the lives of civilians.
Landmine planting has become a feature of Houthi militias; they don’t plant them for self-defense but rather as a systematic policy to inflict as many casualties as possible, especially among civilians.
The child Ahmed Munir Ahmed Qasim is one of the victims of this scourge, where an explosive device exploded when he was playing with it, thinking it was a toy, in (Al muwasitah) area, (As Silw) District, South of Taizz Governorate.
Elsewhere, Mansour Abdullah Abdo was also injured; his leg was amputated as a result of a landmine explosion in (Al-Shagab) area in (Saber Al-Mowadem) district, southeast of Taizz Governorate.
This province ranks first in the list of deaths and injuries of landmines and explosive devices planted by militias in the suburbs and districts of the governorate. Also in (Abyan) Governorate south of Yemen, a whole family was killed and injured in a landmine explosion in the car when they left the main road.
The high number of casualties caused by the explosion of landmines has pushed the project Masam to intensify its efforts and work in a coordinated manner to rid Yemen of this scourge. As of November 7, they cleared 103,737 landmines, unexploded ordnance and an explosive device.
Project Masam’s first team carried out the operation of destruction and detonation of 179 landmines, unexploded shells and explosive devices in the Directorate of (Sirwah) in (Ma’rib) Governorate. The commander of the team, Captain Hamid Balhat assured that the destruction included 150 unexploded shells and 25 ANTI-TANK MINES in addition to 4 explosive devices.
In this operation, the first team of the project Masam carried out 17 destruction and detonation of hundreds of landmines and unexploded shells in (Ma’rib) Governorate.
The Saudi project is keen to destroy what is being removed in accordance with the instructions of the project director, Mr. Ousama Algosaibi, not to transfer or store landmines, and destroying them on an ongoing basis so that they cannot be reused by terrorist groups.
