The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Anba has honoured Project Masam’s Managing Director Ousama Algosaibi in recognition of his significant humanitarian efforts in saving innocent lives from the dangers of landmines and his ongoing support to enhance security and stability in Yemen.
Since its operation began in mid-2018, Project Masam, a Saudi-funded multilateral humanitarian land mine clearance project in Yemen, has removed a total of 473,258 landmines, which were indiscriminately planted across Yemen, resulting in numerous casualties among innocent children, women, and the elderly.
Yousef bin Khalid Al-Marzouq, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Anba, praised the exceptional role played by Project Masam over the years in clearing liberated land of mines planted by Houthi militias.
Al-Marzouq, who visited Project Masam headquarters in the de-facto Yemeni capital of Aden, emphasised that these efforts have been instrumental in safeguarding the lives of thousands of civilians and restoring economic and social activity in the affected areas of Yemen.
He explained that the Anba Shield award is part of the newspaper’s initiative to honour prominent individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the service of the country and the Arab community. Al-Marzouq also highlighted that the achievements of the Project Masam, led by Algosaibi, stand as a model for humanitarian work.
For his part, Adnan Khalifa Al-Rashed, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Al-Anba newspaper, explained that Algosaibi was selected for this honour in recognition of his achievements in leading the mine clearance project, which trains local demining teams and provides them with modern equipment, mentoring and supervision.
Al-Rashed also emphasised the crucial role of the media in supporting humanitarian landmine clearance efforts and highlighting initiatives that benefit affected communities. The deputy editor-in-chief reaffirmed Al-Anba’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with individuals and institutions working to promote development and stability in Yemen.
Algosaibi, meanwhile, expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the visiting Kuwaiti press delegation for the award. He highlighted that the visit by the Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Al-Anba newspaper to the project’s headquarters in Aden reflects the Kuwaiti press’s recognition of the humanitarian landmine clearance efforts carried out by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through the Project Masam, to eliminate the widespread danger of mines planted by Houthi militias across Yemeni territory.
