Idriss Omar Saleh Mohammed, a cheerful young boy, whose hand and feet were amputated is an inspiration to those who cross his path.

He was only small when a landmine exploded under him, as he was near his home. Whilst he survived the blast, he was sent to hospital in a critical situation. His right hand was amputated, as were his feet.

Despite his struggles, Idriss is a very motivated young boy, who says he would like “a four-wheel drive that can take me to school”.

Speaking outside their home on the West Coast, Idriss’ father told Project Masam: “I hope that they will stop this war. The hands of children and women are amputated. Children become orphans. This war is destructive. We don’t want war.”

With victims like Idriss in mind, Project Masam is working relentlessly to clear land and allow children and their families to live safely and in peace.

Project Masam demining teams have located, cleared and destroyed 246,866 explosive devices including 3,835 anti-personnel mines, 79,498 anti-tank mines, 6,018 IEDs and 160,179 UXO in Yemeni liberated areas since the programme started in mid-2018 (as at 14 May 2021).
