The Managing Director of Project Masam, Mr. Ousama AlGosaibi, confirmed that the Houthi militia is committing war crimes by planting thousands of mines and improvised explosive devices in civilians homes, their children’s schools and their livelihoods, stressing that such actions are a flagrant violation of human rights.
AlGosaibi said that the Houthi militia deliberately planted mines to target all vital areas related to civilians lives and their sources of livelihood, with the aim of forcing the local population to displace and abandon their lands and properties in order to preserve their lives from the oppression of the militias, which is what we have witnessed during our work in Yemen the past two years.
Al-Qusaibi noted that the skills of the Houthis in manufacturing mines, improvised explosive devices, and methods of camouflaging and concealing them are constantly evolving, adding that this is a real threat to the local peace and deliberate terrorism against Yemenis.
During his meeting with the Expert Committee of the Security Council in the headquarters of Project Masam in Ma’rib Governorate, Mr. AlGosaibi revealed that Masam has lost 21 martyrs so far in order to accomplish his humanitarian mission in Yemen, 5 of them were foreign experts and 16 wounded, some of whom were permanently disabled.
The Managing Director of Project Masam provided the Security Council’s team of experts with photos and flashes from the Masam media office that included testimonies of civilian victims, most of them women, and children, who were exposed to the explosion of mines that were planted in their roads, homes, and farms.
For his part, Mr. Wolf Christian, an arms expert in the Yemeni’s expert group, confirmed that the committee supports the Security Council in its decisions to impose sanctions on human rights violators in Yemen, noting that the aim of their visit to Project Masam is to obtain answers and gather information condemning mine crimes. And the human tragedies they have caused, as well as knowledge of the characteristics of mines along with their locations, and the extent of danger they pose to civilians.
