Ahmed Mohamed Saeed’s story

Ahmed Mohamed Saeed, who lives in Yemen’s Hays Directorate, was forcibly displaced by the conflict. Him and his family left everything behind – possessions and livelihoods.

He was traveling in his truck when an anti-tank landmine exploded. Whilst his truck was destroyed, Saeed’s legs were badly injured – a sadly daily occurrence in this heavily-mined region.

“A mine exploded under me while I was returning from Al-Akhraf village and heading to my village, and when I was injured, everything in my life was shattered – financially and physically,” Saeed told Project Masam.

“I now feel a quarter of a human being and no longer feel like a normal person.”

Following the incident, Project Masam’s demining teams were called in to survey the area, and clear any landmines left behind.

“We are thankful for what we have. My message to the demining engineering teams is to excel in their work and clear all mines to limit the human harm,” Saeed added.

Masam’s Teams 7, 20, 24, 26, 27 and 30 are currently operating in the Hays. Since mid-2018, Project Masam has cleared 102,477 anti-tank landmines across Yemen.
