Abd Elbaset Abd El Jalil was badly injured when a landmine exploded as he drove his car.

“I was surprised as I was driving on my way safely, I don’t know where the mine came from,” El Jalil said. “The mine split my car in two, the passenger who was next to me died and my leg was amputated, now I am disabled and I can’t do anything.”

Two since after the incident, El Jalil’s injuries mean that the father of nine cannot work. With an extended family to support and feed, no car and medical expenses to pay back, El Jalil says he is desperate.

“I support a family of nine children and I am being treated on my own expenses received from people’s aid. Today I do not have a car to support my children and I do not own anything, also I owe the treatment expenses, which is equivalent to YER5 million (GBP14,899, USD19,980).”

El Jalil lives in Hays Directorate, one of the most landmine contaminated areas in Yemen.
