Project Masam’s demining team 22 has conducted a broad awareness campaign in the Al-Jahamliyah area of Salh District, Taiz Governorate, aimed at educating civilians about the dangers of landmines and unexploded remnants of war as part of the project’s ongoing efforts to protect civilian lives.

According to a statement issued by the organisation, the explosive ordnance risk education (EORE) campaign targeted various groups within the local community, including sanitation workers, school students, bakery and shop owners, and pedestrians in public areas. Participants were briefed on how to identify suspicious objects and report them safely through the project’s 24/7 operations room hotlines.

The statement noted that Al-Jahamliyah is among the areas most affected by extensive mine-laying during the period of Houthi militia control, which resulted in the destruction of residential neighbourhoods and government facilities and left behind large quantities of explosive remnants that continue to threaten local residents.

The campaign also included the distribution of illustrated awareness posters depicting different types of mines and explosive remnants of war to help citizens recognise these hazards and encourage early reporting to prevent further casualties.

Project Masam reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its humanitarian mission across Yemen, working to clear contaminated areas and promote safer living conditions for communities affected by conflict.
