The Masam Landmine Clearance Project in Yemen has carried out a new bulk demolition operation to destroy a number of landmines, shells, and unexploded ordnance in Al-Wadi District, Marib Governorate.
Demolition operations are a critical step in humanitarian mine action. Once landmines and other explosive remnants of war are cleared from the ground, they must be safely destroyed to prevent them from being reused, moved by weather or human activity, or detonating accidentally. Bulk demolitions allow Masam’s field teams to neutralise large quantities of explosives in a controlled environment, ensuring they no longer pose a threat to civilians or deminers.
This latest bulk demolition included anti-vehicle mines, missiles, and other remnants of war that had been collected and cleared from contaminated areas in recent weeks as part of the field teams’ ongoing work.
Project Masam continues to conduct regular bulk demolition operations to safely dispose of these hazardous items, as part of its ongoing efforts to protect lives and create a safe environment for civilians in liberated areas.
These demolitions reflect Project Masam’s humanitarian commitment to reducing the impact of mines and explosive remnants of war, and to preventing further casualties caused by these threats that continue to endanger residents in several Yemeni governorates.
