Chief of Staff of the Fifth Military Region, Brigadier Abdu Sulaiman, conducted a field visit to the Project Masam teams operating in the Midi district of Hajjah Governorate. The teams continue their vital humanitarian landmine clearance mission to clear landmines and protect civilians and displaced families from their deadly threat.

Midi, located on Yemen’s northwest coast near the Saudi border, witnessed some of the fiercest front-line fighting of the conflict. As a result, the district remains heavily contaminated with landmines and explosive remnants of war, posing an ongoing risk to returning residents and humanitarian workers alike.

During the visit, Brigadier Sulaiman commended Masam’s significant contribution to stabilising the area and safeguarding thousands of residents from mines laid by Houthi militias – explosives that have claimed the lives of women and children, killed livestock, and disrupted livelihoods.

He also expressed his appreciation to the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continued support of Project Masam and its steadfast commitment to helping the Yemeni people clear their land of mines.

The Brigadier further praised Project Masam’s humanitarian role in restoring safety and normalcy to liberated areas.
