Project Masam’s Team 37 has successfully cleared several anti-tank mines during humanitarian operations east of the post office in Midi District. This work is part of the project’s ongoing mission to protect civilians from the dangers of mines and explosives planted by the Houthi militia, which have endangered lives and disrupted the daily activities of thousands of residents and displaced families in the district.

Midi, located in Yemen’s Hajjah Governorate, has seen widespread contamination from landmines and explosive devices. Women and children are among the most vulnerable groups, as they are often engaged in daily tasks such as collecting water, farming, and herding animals – activities that take them through unsafe areas. Their exposure, combined with limited awareness of mine risks, makes them disproportionately affected by these deadly devices.

Team 37 leader, Ahmed Al-Tahish, reported that his team recovered 13 anti-tank mines during field operations to secure areas east of the Midi Post. He noted that the devices were professionally dismantled to safeguard civilian lives and give residents renewed hope of returning to normal life.

Al-Tahish reaffirmed that his team remains committed to its humanitarian mission in Midi, working tirelessly to clear mines and other remnants of war. Their aim is to create a safe environment where residents can return to their homes, cultivate their farms, and live and work with security.

Project Masam teams continue to make significant efforts in Midi, a district heavily contaminated with mines laid by the Houthi militia across large areas of farmland and vital land. These explosives have caused dozens of civilian casualties – including women and children – while also killing livestock and destroying both public and private property.

Alongside clearance operations, Project Masam teams also deliver explosive ordnance risk education to help communities recognise and avoid dangerous devices; an essential step in saving civilian lives and preventing future tragedies.
