Project Masam’s demining Team 9 has carried out a explosive ordnance risk awareness campaign in Yakhtul village, Al-Makha District in western Yemen.

Western Yemen is heavily contaminated with landmines because Houthi forces have planted vast numbers of explosives during the conflict, often in civilian areas and far from frontlines. As they withdraw, they frequently lay mines in roads, farms, and villages in unpredictable patterns, leaving behind hidden dangers that threaten returning families and hinder the recovery of liberated areas.

The campaign reached a wide cross-section of the community, including women, children, farmers, herders, and other residents.

The team provided simple, practical information on how to recognise different types of mines and unexploded ordnance, and what to do if such items are found. The sessions aimed to help people stay safe, prevent accidents, and save lives.

Team leader Engineer Ali Abdullah Al-Rimi said these outreach efforts have already improved public safety in affected areas. He highlighted the vital backing of Project Masam’s Managing Director, Ousama Algosaibi, whose support has been key to the success of these humanitarian efforts..

Project Masam continues to run similar awareness activities across Yemen as part of its wider strategy to clear mines and educate communities, with the goal of protecting civilians and helping liberated areas return to normal life.
