Project Masam has carried out an operation on Thursday (18 September) to demolish 6,183 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices in the Wadi Dufs area of Zinjibar District, Abyan Governorate.

Abyan Governorate is located in southern Yemen, along the Gulf of Aden, east of Aden Governorate.

The operation was conducted by Special Task Team 1 as part of ongoing efforts to clear Yemeni territory of landmines, explosive devices, and other war remnants planted by the Houthi militia.

The destroyed items included:

  • 15 anti-personnel mines

  • Six anti-tank mines

  • 233 shells of various types

  • 455 fuses

  • 5,421 rounds of ammunition of different calibers

  • 42 hand grenades

  • several missiles and other war remnants

The operation was carried out in a designated safe area away from population centres and agricultural land. According to Munther Ahmed Qasem, Leader of Special Task Team 1, the team followed international standards for destruction operations despite difficult field conditions.

Qasem stated that the special task forces continue their work throughout the year to protect civilians and are committed to clearing all contaminated areas in Yemen.
