Project Masam clears 3,767 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices

As of 22 August 2025, Project Masam teams have cleared a total of 3,767 explosive devices and 805,643 square metres of land in Yemen during the month of August alone.

These figures reflect the project’s sustained efforts across multiple governorates, where demining operations continue to prioritise civilian areas, including homes, roads, and critical infrastructure.

During the most recent reporting week (16 – 22 August 2025), Project Masam demining teams removed 828 explosive devices, including two anti-personnel mines, 42 anti-tank mines, 783 items of unexploded ordnance (UXO), and one improvised explosive device (IED). Clearance operations during this period covered 224,897 square metres.

In the preceding week (9 – 15 August 2025), Project Masam demining teams removed 915 explosive devices, including eight anti-personnel mines, 13 anti-tank mines, 880 items of UXO, and 14 IEDs. Clearance operations during this period covered 182,409 square metres.

Since its launch in mid-2018, Project Masam has cleared 511,355 explosive devices across Yemen. This includes 6,840 anti-personnel mines, 147,089 anti-tank mines, 349,161 UXO, and 8,265 IEDs.

To date, Project Masam’s operations have covered more than 69.5 million square metres of cleared land.
