In a race against the clock, project Masam works hard to bring life back to the region of Al Ashirah in Muazza’a directorate in Taiz, by enabling its inhabitants to return to their homes and farms that the Houthis’ landmines and explosive devices forced to leave, after they killed and wounded a number of them; the latest being a girl who was less than 14 years old.
In an exclusive interview with Masam’s media office, the leader of team 25 Masam Abdelkhaleq Abu Hatem reiterated that the region of “Al Ashirah’ is one of the areas afflicted by landmines in different shapes and sizes.
Engineer Abdelkhaleq said that his team was able – since it entered the region – to secure vast areas, starting from the main roads, sub-roads, then the school and its surrounding, and that the team works now to clear and secure civilians’ homes and farms and grasslands.
Abu Hatem added that his team was able until now to clear 18 anti-armor landmines from the entrances of the villages, and is still leading its humanitarian mission in the region, working accurately and systematically according to Masam’s safety standards.
And about the nature of their work in the region of Al Ashirah, Engineer Abu Hatem said that his team works in two tracks, the first one: in the fields mapped by the survey team, and the second: responding to emergency calls whenever they get an information about an explosion or the existence of landmines in sensitive areas such as markets and places where civilians gather.
Engineer Abdelkhaleq indicated that his team is making huge efforts to secure the region of Al Ashirah to enable the displaced to return to their homes and reform their lands and farms.
And about the achievements of team 25 Masam, Engineer Abdelkhaleq confirmed that his team was able to make them due to their attendance of the courses that the experts of project Masam provided, and which helped them massively to strengthen their skills and expertise, and had a positive impact on the team’s performance and work. He noted that team 25 Masam was able, since it started its mission in project Masam until now, to clear more than 18 thousand landmines and explosive devices.
In the end of the interview, the leader of team 25 Masam sent a message of thanks and appreciation to the project’s management for everything they are giving to protect Yemenis from the terror with which the Houthi militias polluted the Yemeni lands, randomly and extensively, reiterating that the project will continue its mission, with resilience and hard work, to bring security and stability to a Yemen that will be free of landmines and remnants of war.
