A Saudi news channel reported that more than 5,000 landmines have been planted by Houthi militias in al-Aqroud, in the Taiz countryside. They were planted around in villages, alongside roads, and in schools, affecting men, women, and children.
According to the report, a road between the Al-Misrakh and Damnah Khadir directorates was cut off from access, due to the sheer volume of landmines present.
The channel also reported that of the 16 children, at the Al Mithaq school in Al Khalal, on the borders of al-Aqroud, 4 were killed, and it was subsequently confirmed that continuing to study at the school posed a risk due to the density of the landmines planted.
“The number of landmines is estimated at 5,000, in the areas of Akmat al Asaq, al-Rada’a al-Shiqaq, and al-Hubin, and the area of Al Khalal has been covered with landmines in very large numbers”, said a citizen in the al-Aqroud area.
