Egyptian journalist Hussein El-Badawy has released his first book, The Landmines of al-Yemen al-Saeed (Happy Yemen): A Journey on the Frontlines of Hell, published by Al-Ain Publishing House. The 333-page book documents El-Badawy’s journey through Yemen’s minefields and describes the ongoing impact of landmines in the country.

The book highlights the role of Project Masam. Launched by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in June 2018, the project works to clear Yemeni territory of landmines, including anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, as well as explosive devices and unexploded ordnance.

El-Badawy explained that when he arrived in Yemen to report on the human suffering caused by landmines in areas previously controlled by militias, he was shocked by the scale of the destruction and the long-term dangers. He found himself directly exposed to the hazards of war.

He said that his original plan to conduct a journalistic investigation developed into a larger project: a book that documents the widespread threat facing Yemen and the continuing loss of life caused by landmines.

The journalist described the book as an important milestone in his career and a record of a humanitarian issue that will remain relevant for years to come.

The book is expected to attract wide attention from readers and professionals interested in humanitarian and media topics and will be presented at international events, including the Riyadh International Book Fair in 2025.
