The director of Yemen’s National Mine Action Programme has said that Project Masam demining teams have destroyed 450 anti-tank mines in the country’s southeast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amin Al-Aqili, director of the Yemen Executive Mine Action Center\u00a0(YEMAC), confirmed the landmines were removed from the west of Shabwah Governorate<\/a>, which includes each of Usaylan, Bayhan, and Ain districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shabwah, an energy-rich province, became a\u00a0frontline\u00a0in Yemen’s seven-year\u00a0war, where Houthi militias planted tens of thousands of landmines<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview, Al-Aqili thanked Masam for its efforts to detect, remove and destroy landmines in order to protect Yemeni lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al-Aqili pointed out that the fruitful cooperation between Masam and the National Mine Action programme has led to great progress made on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The director also thanked all those who stood by the Yemeni people and all those making efforts to secure the lives of the Yemenis from deadly explosive items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
