{"id":3971,"date":"2022-11-12T13:38:20","date_gmt":"2022-11-12T13:38:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projectmasam.com\/v2\/?p=3971"},"modified":"2022-11-12T13:38:20","modified_gmt":"2022-11-12T13:38:20","slug":"landmines-isolated-families-but-landmine-clearance-has-saved-us-says-villager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/landmines-isolated-families-but-landmine-clearance-has-saved-us-says-villager\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Landmines isolated families but landmine clearance has saved us&#8217;, says villager"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A villager has described how civilians have experienced successive disasters due to the presence of landmines in his area in Yemen\u2019s western Mawza district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muhammad Saleh Maraani, who is from Al-Safalia village, told Project Masam villagers lost their livelihoods and <a href=\"https:\/\/projectmasam.com\/v2\/en\/2022\/11\/08\/masams-team-23-clears-18-water-wells-of-landmines-in-yemens-mawza-district\/\">access to drinking water<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The villager told how social life was brought to a standstill, with villagers unable to visit family members and elders, who needed them, because the Houthis had indiscriminately planted landmines on roads &#8211; on a wide scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maraani added that mines and militias prompted people to flee as their houses, farms, roads, mosques, schools and hospitals were extensively planted with mines and improvised explosive devices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The arrival of Masam team 23, however, brought security and stability, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maraani explained that Masam re-opened roads, secured homes, hospitals, and <a href=\"https:\/\/projectmasam.com\/v2\/en\/2022\/11\/09\/masams-team-23-secures-mawza-district-schools\/\">schools<\/a>, and allowed relatives to visit each other again, effectively restoring life in Mawza district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The villager expressed his desire for Masam&#8217;s humanitarian landmine clearance teams to continue its mission to help Yemenis be safe again from landmines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A villager has described how civilians have experienced successive disasters due to the presence of landmines in his area in Yemen\u2019s western Mawza district.
