These include\u00a05,695\u00a0anti-personnel mines,\u00a0133,822\u00a0anti-tank mines,\u00a07,557\u00a0improvised explosive devices and\u00a0223,043\u00a0unexploded ordnance neutralised over\u00a039,959,663sqm of land since mid-2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since the conflict between Yemen\u2019s pro-government forces and Houthi militias escalated in 2014, liberated strategic areas<\/a> have been left littered with Houthi anti-personnel mines<\/a> and anti-tank mines, along with unexploded remnants of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Last week (21 October \u2013 28 October 2022) alone, Project Masam deminers removed\u00a0958\u00a0deadly items, including eight anti-personnel mines, 284 anti-tank mines,\u00a0662\u00a0unexploded ordnance (UXO) and four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), effectively clearing\u00a0307,554sqm of land, which has now been\u00a0returned to civilians<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n More than five million people are estimated to have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen \u2013 many of them displaced by the presence of landmines on their land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Masam teams are tasked to clear areas of immediate humanitarian priority: villages, roads, schools<\/a>, etc\u2026 in order to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and humanitarian goods and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For insights into our humanitarian mine clearance work, project updates and to hear from our demining experts, follows on Twitter<\/a> and LinkedIn<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Project Masam has announced its has located and destroyed\u00a0370,117\u00a0explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.
