{"id":3333,"date":"2022-02-28T10:57:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-28T10:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projectmasam.com\/v2\/?p=3333"},"modified":"2022-02-28T10:57:00","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T10:57:00","slug":"marib-team-removes-360-mines-in-24-hours-after-civilian-vehicle-blown-up-by-mine-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/marib-team-removes-360-mines-in-24-hours-after-civilian-vehicle-blown-up-by-mine-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Marib: Team removes 360 mines in 24 hours after civilian vehicle blown up by mine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One of Project Masam\u2019s teams has removed 360 anti-tank mines in less than 24 hours after civilians reported a landmine explosion accident in the strategic northern governorate of Marib.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Yemen\u2019s civil was began in 2014,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/18203-2\/\">Houthi militias have planted land and seamines<\/a>&nbsp;across the war-torn country.&nbsp;Whilst the Houthis\u2019 use of landmines has been widely documented since at least 2015, the sheer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/yemen-off-the-scale-number-of-landmines-planted-not-seen-since-vietnam-war\/\">number of landmines planted<\/a>&nbsp;in recent months in high-risk areas \u2013 such as Marib \u2013 has led experts to warn that the armed group\u2019s new tactics could hamper mine eradication in Yemen, as well as pose an increased threat to the safety, health and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/masam-clears-85-anti-tank-mines-from-bab-al-mandab-coast-after-boat-hit\/\">lives of Yemenis<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Led by Hamid Saleh Mohammed, Masam\u2019s Team 1 travelled to the area of Shuget Mai in Marib Al Wadi after Masam received credible reports of a landmine accident involving a civilian vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon arriving on the site, Team 1 removed 360 anti-tank mines from the immediate area where the accident occurred during the first 24 hours of clearance. By the end of the week (19-25 February 2022), the team located 504 anti-tank mines from the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the same period, 16 teams operating out of Masam\u2019s Marib headquarters cleared and removed a total of 52 anti-personnel landmines and 799 anti-tank landmines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Masam teams are tasked to clear areas of immediate humanitarian priority:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/masam-team-finds-unexploded-ordnance-following-report-by-school-students\/\">villages, roads, healthcare centres and schools<\/a>&nbsp;in order to facilitate the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/minefields-in-mountains-masam-deminers-surrounded-by-danger\/\">safe movement of civilians<\/a>&nbsp;and humanitarian goods and services.&nbsp;While Masam teams respond to requests from locals and local authorities to assist with clearance operations, the number of requests has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/marib-masams-team-11-clears-hundreds-of-landmines-in-one-month\/\">grown overwhelmingly<\/a>&nbsp;in the past six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because planning and distribution of tasks remain in line with immediate priorities, Masam teams tend to more urgent tasks first, with quick response teams sent to investigate mine accidents reported by civilians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of Project Masam\u2019s teams has removed 360 anti-tank mines in less than 24 hours after civilians reported a landmine explosion accident in the strategic northern governorate of Marib.
