A tribal sheikh in Yemen\u2019s Hajjah Governorate<\/a> has warned of the growing danger posed by landmines, which continue to threaten civilian lives and worsen living conditions in rural areas, particularly in the northern parts of Abs District.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Mohammed Kadish of Bani Hassan village said that the widespread planting of landmines in residential and agricultural areas has placed residents under constant risk, adding that these devices will remain a threat to thousands of civilians for years to come.<\/p>\n

Kadish explained that agricultural land in the area has become unsafe, with landmine explosions causing dozens of casualties, including women and children<\/a>. These incidents have resulted in deaths, injuries and long-term disabilities.<\/p>\n

He noted that many of the accidents occurred while residents were carrying out daily activities such as farming or travelling between villages and schools, in areas where landmines are widely present.<\/p>\n

He also pointed out that the region has suffered significant losses, including human lives, livestock and large areas of farmland. This has had a serious impact on a community that relies primarily on agriculture and livestock for its livelihood. According to Kadish, these conditions have worsened the economic situation, contributing to increased poverty and unemployment. Fear of landmines has forced many farmers to stop working in order to protect their lives.<\/p>\n

Kadish added that fear and uncertainty have become part of daily life for both residents and displaced people, who face ongoing risk while carrying out routine activities.<\/p>\n
