Project Masam has carried out a demolition operation on Thursday (30 April), destroying 4,076 landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and other war remnants in the Dufs area of Abyan Governorate in southern Yemen.<\/p>\n
The operation was conducted by the project\u2019s Special Tasks Team 1 as part of its ongoing mission to clear Yemeni territory of mines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and explosive remnants of war that continue to pose a serious threat to civilian lives.<\/p>\n
The destroyed items included: 219 assorted shells, 3,570 rounds of ammunition, 255 assorted fuses, 12 anti-personnel mines, five anti-tank mines, 11 hand grenades, three rockets, and one IED.<\/p>\n
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) expert Munther Qasim, leader of Special Tasks Team 1, stated that the team operates around the clock to respond to reports and appeals from civilians and local authorities across Aden, Abyan, and Lahj. He explained that the team works to locate, secure, and safely dispose of explosive threats through regular demolition operations aimed at reducing risks to civilians.<\/p>\n
Qasim added that the team recently responded to a report from Lahj Governorate regarding the presence of an IED. The team immediately deployed to the site, successfully dismantled the device, and secured the surrounding area.<\/p>\n
Project Masam continues its humanitarian operations<\/a> across several liberated Yemeni governorates, clearing mines and war remnants and responding to emergency reports, in ongoing efforts to enhance civilian safety and restore stability to affected communities.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
