Project Masam’s Special Task Team (STT),\u00a0in cooperation with the Yemen Executive Mine Action Centre (YEMAC) \u2013 Mukalla Branch, has carried out a controlled demolition operation on Wednesday, destroying 1,696 landmines and explosive remnants of war in Ghayl Bin Yamin District, Hadhramaut Governorate.<\/p>\n

The STT, comprises specialised Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel tasked with the identification, risk assessment, and safe disposal of explosive threats, including landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and unexploded ordnance (UXO).<\/p>\n

According to Project Masam\u2019s media office, the destroyed items included a wide range of ammunition and explosive devices. These comprised 1,320 rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition, 220 assorted mortar shells, 11 RPG rounds, 56 anti-personnel mine fuses, one rocket, two IEDs, and 86 rounds of 23 mm ammunition.<\/p>\n

This marks the seventh<\/a> such operation conducted in Hadhramaut Governorate since mid-January. Project Masam teams continue their intensive, around-the-clock efforts to clear landmines, IEDs, and UXO, working at a steady pace to enhance civilian safety across Yemen.<\/p>\n

These explosive hazards pose a grave threat to civilian lives and significantly restrict freedom of movement, particularly in affected communities.<\/p>\n

Documented destruction operations (through audio and visual recording) form part of standard procedures, ensuring that cleared explosive materials are safely disposed of in designated areas away from populated areas.<\/p>\n

With this latest operation, the total number of landmines, IEDs, and UXO destroyed by Project Masam teams in Hadhramaut Governorate since January 17 has reached 14,109<\/a>.<\/p>\n
