Project Masam’s Managing Director Ousama Algosaibi<\/a>,\u00a0 has received a high-level military delegation at the project\u2019s headquarters in the Midi district of Hajjah Governorate today (27 November).<\/p>\n

Since the project launched operations<\/a> in the Midi district in September 2025, the teams have cleared 5,649 landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and unexploded ordnance, clearing an area of 597,042 square metres.<\/p>\n

The delegation included Major General Yahya Hussein Salah, Commander of the Fifth Military Region of the Yemeni Army; Major General Khalid Abu Al-Qasim, Commander of the Twelfth Hazm Brigade in the Sudanese Army; and Brigadier General Mohammed bin Houfan Al-Shamrani, Commander of Force (800).<\/p>\n

During the visit, Algosaibi provided a detailed briefing on the work of the field teams operating in Midi, highlighting the progress achieved since the launch of their operations to clear land contaminated with mines and explosive devices planted by Houthi militias in civilian areas – actions that constitute a clear violation of international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n

Algosaibi also outlined the main challenges faced by the teams in the region, stressing that the project, which is fully funded by the government of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, continues to work diligently to overcome these obstacles in pursuit of its humanitarian mission: a life without mines.<\/p>\n

The delegation was briefed on the project\u2019s human and technical capabilities and observed a demonstration of the newly introduced mechanical Masam 1 mine sweeper. They also toured the project\u2019s headquarters, inaugurated last August, which covers an area of 90,000 square metres, and includes administrative offices and residential facilities.<\/p>\n

The military commanders praised the high level of professionalism demonstrated by the project teams, emphasising that the crucial humanitarian role played by the project by helping restore normal life to local communities and protecting hundreds of thousands of civilians from the threat of mines planted in areas liberated from Houthi control.<\/p>\n

The Commander of the Fifth Military Region expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the leadership, government, and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their ongoing support of humanitarian efforts in Yemen. He noted that Project Masam stands as a leading example of initiatives dedicated to protecting civilians and ensuring their safe movement across liberated areas.<\/p>\n
