Project Masam has carried out a major bulk demolition<\/a> operation in the Bab al-Mandeb area of Taiz Governorate, safely destroying 4,100 mines, explosive devices, and other remnants of war as part of its continued efforts to reduce explosive hazards along Yemen\u2019s western coast.<\/p>\n

The operation, conducted by Special Task Team 2, followed extensive survey and collection activities in Bab al-Mandab and surrounding frontline areas where large quantities of Houthi-planted devices continue to endanger civilians, disrupt livelihoods, and hinder safe movement.<\/p>\n

According to Project Masam\u2019s Media Office, the items destroyed included 32 anti-personnel mines, 31 anti-tank mines, 69 shells of various calibres, 23 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), eight hand grenades, 1,320 detonators, 2,615 assorted rounds, and two missiles. The demolition also included significant quantities of war remnants gathered by Masam teams deployed throughout the western coastal region.<\/p>\n

Engineer Adeeb Rajab, Leader of Special Task Team 2, stated that these periodic demolition operations are essential to removing long-term threats from communities. Many of the collected items remain highly sensitive, even after years of exposure, and can cause fatal injuries through minimal disturbance or environmental factors such as flooding, soil movement, or corrosion.<\/p>\n

Rajab underscored that all demolition activities are carried out in accordance with international humanitarian mine action standards to ensure complete neutralisation of explosive risks and to protect nearby communities. He affirmed that Special Task Team 2 will continue its mission with the same level of precision and commitment until all designated areas are declared safe.<\/p>\n

Project Masam continues to operate across multiple governorates where extensive mine-laying and contamination have disrupted civilian life, blocked access routes, damaged infrastructure, and prevented displaced families from returning home. Through sustained clearance and demolition operations, the project aims to restore safe conditions and support Yemen\u2019s path toward recovery.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
