The team cleared two mine-contaminated fields and removed two anti-tank mines, making safe an area of 35,000 square metres.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"574\" data-end=\"807\">Team Leader Hassan Al-Jahuri explained that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/deminers-now-clearing-areas-for-3rd-time-after-houthis-re-plant-cleared-areas-project-masam-warns\/\">Houthi militias<\/a> had heavily mined the area to obstruct the movement of government forces and displace residents, adding that seasonal floods often uncover hidden explosives and increase the threat to civilians.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"809\" data-end=\"1025\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/project-masam-team-28-continues-to-clear-dhubab-mountain-despite-obstacles\/\">Taiz<\/a> has been one of Yemen\u2019s most heavily affected governorates due to years of front-line fighting, with widespread mine contamination cutting off farmland, roads, and grazing areas essential to rural livelihoods.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1027\" data-end=\"1209\">In recent years, landmines in this area have claimed dozens of civilian lives and killed large numbers of livestock &#8211; a vital source of income and food security for local families.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1211\" data-end=\"1436\">\u201cDemining operations have improved the situation, but the danger remains,\u201d said shepherd Ali Salem Shamkh. Fellow resident Um Nasser, a shepherdess, called for the continuation of Masam\u2019s efforts to safeguard the community.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1710\">The districts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/in-pictures-landmine-explosion-in-dhubab-government-complex-highlights-persistent-mine-threat\/\">Bab Al-Mandab and Dhubab<\/a> are among the most heavily mine-contaminated areas on Yemen\u2019s west coast.
