Project Masam has announced it has located and destroyed 495,855 explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.<\/p>\n

These include 6,794 anti-personnel mines, 146,511 anti-tank mines, 334,315unexploded ordnance (UXO) and 8,235 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) cleared over 67,244,455 square metres of land since mid-2018.<\/p>\n

Since the conflict between Yemen\u2019s pro-government forces and Houthi militias escalated in 2014, liberated\u00a0strategic areas<\/a>\u00a0have been left littered with\u00a0Houthi anti-personnel mines<\/a>\u00a0and anti-tank mines, along with unexploded remnants of war.<\/p>\n

Last week (17 May \u2013 23 May 2025) alone, Project Masam deminers removed 1,504 deadly items, including four anti-personnel landmine, 40 anti-tank mines, 1,459 UXO and one IED, according to Project Masam Managing Director Ousama Algosaibi. The teams cleared 164,246 square metres during the same period.<\/p>\n

Up to five million people are estimated to have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen \u2013 many of them displaced by the presence of landmines on their land.<\/p>\n

Masam teams are tasked to clear areas of immediate humanitarian priority:\u00a0villages, roads, schools<\/a>, etc\u2026 in order to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and humanitarian goods and services.<\/p>\n
