Yemen cannot afford more delays.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>A Crisis Deepened by\u00a0Neglect<\/h3>\n<p class=\"graf\">Over the past months, funding cuts have severely impacted mine action programs, jeopardising the safety of thousands of Yemeni civilians.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf\">\u201cThe withdrawal of key supporters has forced vital partnerships to dissolve, leaving a devastating gap in humanitarian demining efforts,\u201d Algosaibi stated. Credit: Elsa Buchanan for Project Masam<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Project Masam\u2019s Tireless\u00a0Efforts<\/h3>\n<p class=\"graf\">Since 2018, Project Masam has been at the forefront of Yemen\u2019s demining mission. Fully funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the project has cleared an astounding 65.8 million square meters of land. \u201cEvery mine removed is a life potentially saved, a home reclaimed, a future restored,\u201d Algosaibi emphasised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf\">The project\u2019s mission, however, extends beyond just mine clearance. Credit: Elsa Buchanan for Project Masam<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Upholding International Law<\/h3>\n<p class=\"graf\">Algosaibi also stressed the urgent need for the international community to uphold the humanitarian agreements they have ratified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf\">\u201cThe First and Second Geneva Conventions of 1949, the 1990 Declaration on the Rules of International Humanitarian Law\u200a\u2014\u200athese are not optional guidelines. Credit: Elsa Buchanan for Project Masam<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>A Call for Immediate Action<\/h3>\n<p class=\"graf\">As Yemen teeters on the edge of famine, with millions displaced and struggling for survival, the need for mine action has never been more critical.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf\">\u201cWe urge the international community\u200a\u2014\u200agovernments, NGOs, and humanitarian actors\u200a\u2014\u200ato take responsibility and reinstate funding for life-saving demining efforts,\u201d Algosaibi added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf\">\u201cWe also call for immediate pressure on the Houthis to disclose minefield locations. The safety of millions depends on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf\">On this International Day for Mine Awareness, the managing director said Project Masam honours the resilience of Yemen\u2019s people and the bravery of its deminers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf\">\u201cWe are not just clearing landmines; we are clearing the way for a safer, brighter future for Yemen,\u201d Algosaibi concluded. \u201cLet us stand together in this cause\u200a\u2014\u200astronger and more determined than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf\">The commitment to removing these threats must be unwavering, as every mine removed brings Yemen closer to a future of peace and recovery.
