Project Masam has announced it has located and destroyed 485,501 explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.<\/p>\n

These include 6,749 anti-personnel mines, 146,242 anti-tank mines, 324,306 unexploded ordnance (UXO) and 8,204 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) cleared over 65,880,374 square metres of land since mid-2018.<\/p>\n

Since the conflict between Yemen\u2019s pro-government forces and Houthi militias escalated in 2014, liberated\u00a0strategic areas<\/a>\u00a0have been left littered with\u00a0Houthi anti-personnel mines<\/a>\u00a0and anti-tank mines, along with unexploded remnants of war.<\/p>\n

Last week (15 March 2025 \u2013 21 March 2025) alone, Project Masam deminers removed 552 deadly items, including 35 anti-tank mines, 513 UXO and four IEDs, according to Project Masam Managing Director Ousama Algosaibi. The teams cleared 4,750 square metres during the same period.<\/p>\n

While many Project Masam teams were on annual leave during Ramadan, reserve and emergency teams continued operations.<\/p>\n

Up to five million people are estimated to have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen \u2013 many of them displaced by the presence of landmines on their land.<\/p>\n

Masam teams are tasked to clear areas of immediate humanitarian priority:\u00a0villages, roads, schools<\/a>, etc\u2026 in order to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and humanitarian goods and services.<\/p>\n
