{"id":21751,"date":"2025-03-13T17:26:50","date_gmt":"2025-03-13T17:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/?p=21751"},"modified":"2025-03-13T17:26:50","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T17:26:50","slug":"project-masam-demolishes-2247-landmines-and-unexploded-ordnance-in-yemens-abyan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/project-masam-demolishes-2247-landmines-and-unexploded-ordnance-in-yemens-abyan\/","title":{"rendered":"Project Masam demolishes 2,247 landmines, and unexploded ordnance in Yemen\u2019s Abyan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Project Masam\u2019s deminers have destroyed 2,247 landmines, and unexploded ordnance in the Wadi Dufs area of Zinjibar in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/masam-destroys-and-detonates-1470-mines-and-uxos\/\">Abyan Governorate<\/a>, east of Aden, Yemen\u2019s de facto capital.<\/p>\n<p>In alignment with the global mine action sector, Project Masam\u2019s responsibilities include the clearance, removal or destruction of landmines stockpile and explosive remnants of war.<\/p>\n<p>By\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectmasam.com\/eng\/safe-detonation-of-landmines-in-conversation-with-our-experts\/\">destroying the explosive items<\/a>, Project Masam ensures they can no longer function as designed \u2013 this effectively protects civilian populations and helps to eradicate these deadly weapons.<\/p>\n<p>Project Masam\u2019s Special Task Team (STT) in the Aden sector confirmed that the operation involved the detonation and destruction of 204 unexploded shells, 521 assorted fuses, seven anti-tank mines, 16 anti-personnel mines, 1,522 assorted rounds, 116 armour-piercing fin stabilised discarding sabot (APFSDS) and 41 hand grenades.<\/p>\n<p>Engineer Munther Qassem, leader of the STT, praised his team for successfully completing the operation during the day and during the month of Ramadan, despite the high temperatures. He highlighted that this accomplishment showcases his team&#8217;s strong commitment and dedication.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Qassem emphasised: &#8220;The work of our special task teams continues year-round, as our missions are critical to protecting innocent lives.
