Project Masam\u2019s deminers have destroyed 2,015 landmines, and unexploded ordnance in the Wadi Dufs area of Zinjibar in Abyan Governorate<\/a>, east of Aden, Yemen\u2019s de facto capital.<\/p>\n

In alignment with the global mine action sector, Project Masam\u2019s responsibilities include the clearance, removal or destruction of landmines stockpile and explosive remnants of war.<\/p>\n

By\u00a0destroying the explosive items<\/a>, Project Masam ensures they can no longer function as designed \u2013 this effectively protects civilian populations and helps to eradicate these deadly weapons.<\/p>\n

Munther Qassem, Project Masam\u2019s Special Task Team (STT) in the Aden sector, confirmed that the operation involved the detonation and destruction of a Katyusha rocket, 1,621 miscellaneous fuses, six anti-tank mines, 12 anti-personnel mines, and 26 mortar shells.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the team demolished 111 152mm caliber missile warheads, 21 76mm caliber missile warheads, 81 armour-piercing steel warheads, and 136 armour-piercing fin stabilised discarding sabot (APFSDS) rounds were safely destroyed.<\/p>\n

The bulk demolition was conducted in line with international safety standards for the disposal of landmines and war remnants, at a location far removed from population centres and agricultural areas in the Dofs area.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
