Project Masam\u2019s deminers have destroyed 1,063 landmines, and unexploded ordnance in the coastal Bab al-Mandab area of Dhubab District, in Yemen\u2019s Taiz region.<\/p>\n
The demolition operation, carried out by the Project Masam\u2019s Special Task Team, involved the demolition of 446 assorted rounds of ammunition, 391 various fuses, 93 Houthi anti-tank mines, and 31 Houthi anti-personnel mines. Additionally, 97 artillery shells and unexploded ordnance, and five Katyusha rockets were safely destroyed.<\/p>\n
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)expert Adib Rajab, leader of the Special Task Team in Aden and the West Coast, confirmed that the bulk demolition was successfully conducted in accordance with international demining standards.<\/p>\n
He added that the destruction and disposal of landmines and other remnants of war are crucial in ensuring civilian safety and restoring normalcy in affected areas. This effort significantly reduces the threats these mines pose to lives and property, allowing local residents to safely resume their daily activities, and move freely and safely across pastures, farms, and roads.<\/p>\n
The EOD expert also urged residents across Yemeni governorates to avoid handling or approaching remnants of war or suspected ordnance, as they are extremely dangerous \u2013 as part of Project Masam\u2019s large scale\u00a0Explosive Ordnance Risk Education awareness campaigns<\/a>.<\/p>\n In recent months, many civilian injuries have occurred due to the mishandling and removal of these dangerous remnants across liberated areas of Yemen.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
