Project Masam has announced it has located and destroyed 471,034 explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.<\/p>\n

These include 6,678 anti-personnel mines, 145,654 anti-tank mines, 310,541 unexploded ordnance (UXO) and 8,161 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) cleared over 62,389,146 square metres of land since mid-2018.<\/p>\n

Since the conflict between Yemen\u2019s pro-government forces and Houthi militias escalated in 2014, liberated\u00a0strategic areas<\/a>\u00a0have been left littered with\u00a0Houthi anti-personnel mines<\/a>\u00a0and anti-tank mines, along with unexploded remnants of war.<\/p>\n

Last week (23 November \u2013 29 November 2024) alone, Project Masam deminers removed 618 deadly items, including one anti-personnel mine, 23 anti-tank mines, and 594 UXO, according to Project Masam Managing Director Ousama Algosaibi. The teams cleared 276,790 square metres during the same period.<\/p>\n

Up to five million people are estimated to have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen \u2013 many of them displaced by the presence of landmines on their land.<\/p>\n

Masam teams are tasked to clear areas of immediate humanitarian priority:\u00a0villages, roads, schools<\/a>, etc\u2026 in order to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and humanitarian goods and services.<\/p>\n
