Project Masam’s media team has launched an awareness campaign aimed at the students of the Kuwait School in the al-Suweida internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Marib Governorate, a strategic province in north-central Yemen.<\/p>\n
The Explosive Ordnance Risk Education<\/a> (EORE) campaign’s primary objective was to raise awareness about the dangers posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) – which contaminate the region -, with a focus on ensuring the safety of the students.<\/p>\n During the campaign, the media team provided important guidelines on how to recognise and safely handle suspicious objects. They also shared vital information on the proper safety measures to follow when in or near mine-contaminated areas.<\/p>\n In a gesture of support for education and IDPs, Project Masam presented a gift to the students of the Kuwait School, which included 200 fully equipped school bags; a contribution made to help alleviate the educational burdens on students’ families and to support their academic future.<\/p>\n The students expressed their gratitude to Project Masam’s deminers for their ongoing humanitarian landmine clearance efforts, and for raising awareness about the dangers of unexploded ordnance.<\/p>\n They emphasised the importance of being cautious, avoiding contact with unfamiliar objects, and promptly notifying teachers or parents if any suspicious items are found.<\/p>\n As at February 2024, there were 4.5 million persons displaced by Yemen’s brutal civil war<\/a>, and a further 71,658 refugees and asylum seekers in Yemen. In southern Yemen, 2.8 million persons were displaced, the Organisation for Migration (IOM) said, of whom more than one-half were sheltering in Marib Governorate.<\/p>\n According to Armed Conflict Location & Event Data, IDPs make up more than 93 per cent of Marib City\u2019s population<\/a>, straining existing public services, aid resources, and social ties.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
