Project Masam has recently designed and delivered a training course for members of international organisations working in the Marib Governorate.<\/p>\n
The course focused on the risks associated with landmines and unexploded ordnance that field personnel might encounter during their missions.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Retief Horn, the project’s Deputy Managing Director, explained that the training was aimed at staff of five international organisations active in Marib.<\/p>\n
The targeted organisations included Solidarit\u00e9s International (SI), Relief International (RI), Oxfam, the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED), the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).<\/p>\n
The course is designed to educate participants about the various types of mines and hazardous ordnance present in Yemen, such as anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).<\/p>\n
The course also emphasised on preventive measures to avoid dangerous situations and provided guidance on actions to be taken when encountering suspected mined areas.<\/p>\n
Throughout the course, 17 participants from these organisations received awareness leaflets and educational materials. The goal was to equip them with the knowledge needed to help local communities avoid mine-related risks in their villages and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
