Project Masam\u2019s deminers have removed demolished dozens of landmines, and unexploded ordnance in Jabal al-Nar, Al-Mokha district, in Yemen\u2019s western Taiz governorate – one of Yemen’s most landmine contaminated regions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The operation, conducted by Project Masam Special Task Team, involved the bulk demolition of three Houthi-manufactured anti-tank mines, along with 23 miscellaneous mortar shells and various rounds that were deemed challenging to transport.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Engineer Abdullah Shaafel, the leader of Team 21, explained that the destroyed items were collected by the team from the Yakhtul and Al-Rama farms in the. coastal Al- Mokha district.<\/p>\n

The demolished mines and unexploded ordnance posed significant obstacles to the return of displaced civilians to their homes and farms<\/a>, and presented a serious threat to the lives of shepherds, children and women, Shaafel explained.<\/p>\n

The deminer added that the shells were extremely difficult to transport and handle, due to their condition. Consequently, Project Masam’s Special Task Team was tasked with their safe transportation and demolition.<\/p>\n

Shaafel further explained that the bulk demolition operation was carried out in a location that adheres to international standards for the disposal of landmines, improvised explosive devices, and other remnants of war.<\/p>\n

Waddi Jabal al-Nar was chosen for the operation due to its distance from residential areas and farms.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
