Project Masam has carried out the bulk demolition of 1,275 landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Bab al-Mandab, in Dhubab District in south Yemen.<\/p>\n
The bulk demolition operation carried out by Project Masam\u2019s Special Task force in the Bab al-Mandab area, on the western coast of Yemen, included 39 banned anti-personnel mines, 106 anti-tank mines, 119 assorted shells, , 503 firearm ammunitions, eight IEDs, and 498 miscellaneous fuses.<\/p>\n
The landmines and IEDs that were destroyed on 8 February were planted in vital areas, such as villages, farms, roads, and schools, among many others, where they posed a direct threat to the lives of civilians.<\/p>\n
In alignment with the global mine action sector, Project Masam\u2019s responsibilities include the clearance, removal or destruction of landmines stockpile and explosive remnants of war.<\/p>\n
By destroying the explosive items, Project Masam ensures they can no longer function as designed \u2013 this effectively protects civilian populations and helps to eradicate these deadly weapons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
