The Yemeni Minister of Health has praised Project Masam for its humanitarian landmine clearance role in Yemen, during a ceremony held in the defacto capital Aden on Thursday (2 November).<\/p>\n
Since mid-2018, Project Masam has been clearing landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Yemen, in coordination with the Yemen Executive Mine Action Centre<\/a> (YEMAC). So far, Project Masam has located and destroyed 419,997 explosive devices<\/a> in Yemeni liberated areas.<\/p>\n During a speech, Dr. Qassem Bahaibah, the Yemeni Minister of Health, commended Project Masam for its role in securing the lives of millions of Yemenis and liberating them from mines and IEDs planted in various regions in Yemen.<\/p>\n During a ceremony held to mark the first anniversary of the re-opening of the Aden Hospital – with funding from the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen<\/a> (SDRPY) – Minister Buhaibah praised the efforts made by the demining teams of the project, expressing his thanks for its management and pioneering efforts in Yemen. despite the ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n Buhaibah, along with Dr. Khaled Al-Shehri, Director of the Aden Hospital, presented an award, the Shield of Humanity, to Qasim Al-Dossary, Assistant Managing Director of Project Masam in recognition of the project’s efforts in removing thousands of landmines that were deliberately planted across large swathes of the country.<\/p>\n For his part, Al-Dossary expressed this thanks to the delegates and the audience for their presence at the ceremony, and commended the great work achieved by the Aden General Hospital and the Heart Centre in serving patients in Aden and neighbouring districts.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
